Diabetic & High-Risk Foot Care: Neurovascular Assessments

Professional Protection for Your Feet

For individuals living with diabetes, Peripheral Artery Disease (PAD), or circulatory issues, foot health is a high priority. Minor issues can quickly escalate into serious complications if sensation or blood flow is compromised. As a Level 4 Foot Health Practitioner, Andreea provides comprehensive Neurovascular Assessments designed to detect problems early, monitor your health, and keep you mobile.

What is a Neurovascular Assessment?

This is a non-invasive, clinical "MOT" for your feet. It evaluates two critical systems:

  1. Neurological (Nerve Health): We check for Peripheral Neuropathy (loss of feeling). If you cannot feel a small cut or a blister, it can lead to undetected infections.
  2. Vascular (Blood Flow): We assess the circulation. Good blood flow is essential for the skin to heal itself and stay healthy. Our pediatricians at Bespoke Feet are dedicated to ensuring the health and wellbeing of your children, from newborns to teenagers.

What Happens During Your Assessment?

  • Doppler Ultrasound & Pulse Check: We listen to the blood flow in your feet using a Doppler device and manually check the pedal pulses to ensure your circulation is healthy.
  • Monofilament Sensation Testing: A painless test using a fine fibre to check for "loss of protective sensation"—the primary risk factor for diabetic foot ulcers.
  • Skin & Structural Inspection: A detailed check for changes in skin colour, temperature, hair growth, and nail health, as well as identifying "hot spots" where pressure may cause future issues.
  • Personalised Advice: You will receive a clear explanation of your results and a tailored care plan to manage your foot health at home.

Why Is This Essential for Diabetics?

Diabetes can damage the nerves and blood vessels in the extremities. Regular assessments are the "gold standard" for:

  • Early Detection: Identifying neuropathy before an injury occurs.
  • Ulcer Prevention: Preventing the complications that can lead to infections or, in severe cases, amputation.
  • Peace of Mind: Regular monitoring ensures your treatment plan is always up to date as your health evolves.

Recommended Frequency

  • Low Risk: At least once every 12 months.
  • Increased/High Risk: Every 3 to 6 months, depending on your specific needs.
  • New Symptoms: If you experience numbness, tingling, or "pins and needles," you should book an assessment as soon as possible.
